Federation Meeting Report
On Saturday April 16, members of the three chapters of the Delaware Federation of College Democrats gathered at the University of Delaware for the Federation's first Spring Meeting. The assembled membership heard year reports and future plans from the chapter presidents (Darnell Peterson - DSU, Travis Ragland - Wesley, and Bill Humphrey - UD). Federation President Bill Humphrey announced some future plans for the Federation, and the members voted to make a minor correction to the Federation constitution before electing next year's board. Bill Humphrey and Travis Ragland were confirmed to their current posts as President and Vice President respectively, for full terms. Darnell Peterson, who is graduating this spring, will be succeeded at a later date on the executive board as Federation secretary by a representative from his school.
The Delaware Federation of College Democrats also announced the establishment of the position of Honorary Chair of the Federation. The inaugural title-holder is Rep. John C. Carney, Jr. (D-Del.) who sent the following letter to the Federation's membership.

2011 Spring Meeting!
This coming Saturday (4/16), please join us at 2 PM in Newark at the University of Delaware's Purnell Hall in Room 235 for the first Spring Meeting of the Delaware Federation of College Democrats. The general membership of the three chapters will assemble to elect a new state board, discuss policies and plans for next year, and find out who our new Honorary Chair will be. Attendance is extremely important, so please make every effort to be there.
There is also a big opportunity to take a leadership role by becoming a state representative to the College Democrats of America on an issue of your choice, as part of their issue caucuses. Caucuses include the Black Caucus, LGBT Caucus, Women's Caucus, Asian-Pacific Islander Caucus, Veterans Caucus, Faith Caucus and more. All need reps from Delaware, so there's a lot of roles to take. Come to Saturday's meeting to learn more and run.

Formation of Delaware Federation of College Dems
We are proud to announce the formation of the Delaware Federation of College Democrats, composed of the chapters at the University of Delaware, Wesley College, and Delaware State University.
The UD Democrats were heavily involved in the 2010 Coordinated Democratic Campaign in Delaware, hosting Chris Coons, John Carney, Tim Kaine, and a variety of other Democratic politicians at the University and canvassing or interning on behalf of the Coordinated Campaign for over two months. The Wesley Democrats helped the Carney for Congress campaign. The Del State Democrats worked on the re-election campaign of state Rep. Darryl Scott (D-Dover).
The Wesley and Delaware State Democrats, re-established this year, plan to work this spring on developing and expanding their membership. The Del State Dems are planning a project to register freshman and transfer students to vote in the coming calendar year, and the other two chapters are developing similar projects. The Wesley Dems hope to work with the state legislature in Dover to gain experience in government. The UD Dems have helped launch an ambitious project, the Delaware Right to Marry Political Action Committee, and some of its members are researching ways of expanding democratic participation in Delaware with regard to voting rights.
The presidents of all three chapters and the vice presidents of the UD and Wesley chapters met via conference call on December 12, 2010 to ratify the Federation Constitution and elect an interim Executive Board. UD Democrats President Bill Humphrey will serve as Interim Federation President, Wesley Democrats President Travis Ragland will serve as Interim Federation Vice President, and Delaware State Democrats President Darnell Peterson will serve as Interim Federation Secretary. It is hoped that the board will expand in the spring elections when a permanent board is elected.
The Federation hopes to coordinate efforts of College Democrats across the state in the future and build stronger ties to the Delaware Democratic Party and Delaware State Government, as well as to the College Democrats of America and the full Democratic Party.
